Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day History Groundhog Day marks the midway point between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox. It is a derivative from the early Christian holiday of Candlemas Day. The holiday is commemorated when a famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerges from his burrow and looks for his shadow. The tradition goes that this day, is used to help determine how many weeks of winter might be left. It is observed every year on February 2nd and was established in 1887.

It is with a profound sadness that CRSPIA share the news of Dave Hernandez's passing. Dave was involved in many volunteer activities that involved giving to the Park system, CRSPIA, communities, friends and family. Here in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, he was our Treasurer, past president, Historian of our Park and trails, and the Trail Maintenance Unit where he provided safety training for our trail equipment. Memorial Day

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day and commemorates all men and women who have died in military service for the United States. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day and it is traditionally seen as the start of the summer season.
